For the Higher Good of All

As the world recently converged at the 2024 Olympics, the event unfolded against a backdrop of political unrest shaping our fractured global landscape. Yet amidst the tension, sparks of hope and possibilities were ignited within me. Rest assured, the possibilities that stirred within me were not about my untapped athletic abilities - God knows that ship sailed, or rather, sank before it ever left the dock - but I digress. The possibilities I speak of are something deeper: peace, unity, and love.

Watching the opening ceremonies, where French singer-songwriter Juliette Armanet delivered a poignant rendition of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s "Imagine," I was struck by the powerful message that echoed through the stadium. As the song lingered in my thoughts, reflecting on our political climate and divides, an unexpected wave of creative inspiration arose. Sitting in the stillness of my back porch, with the gentle hum of nature as my soundtrack, I felt compelled to write the following free verse poem - a reflection on how the world coming together for the Olympics can spark moments of collective hope.

Now, as I write these thoughts, my mind drifts to another timeless classic: Hal David's lyrics and Burt Bacharach's composition of "What the World Needs Now Is Love."

In these moments of musical reflection, I’m reminded that amidst the chaos of our times, peace, love, and harmony are not just distant ideals but attainable realities we can nurture within ourselves and share with the world. These timeless messages continue to resonate with a deep, universal truth that we need now more than ever.

What poems, songs, or books stir that same sense of inner peace and connection within you? Let’s celebrate and share these creative treasures - they are the beacons that can guide us toward a more harmonious world.

Only Oneness, Only Love

By MaryBeth DiNunzio

No need for greed, in a world of one

For the higher good of all

No race, no hate, no jealousy

Creating only oneness, only love

United in love, love of all, big and small

Love of our animals and insects too

Love of air, water, land, and seas

Creating only oneness, only love

Mother Earth and Mother Nature

Mothers, grandmothers, fathers, and sons

Helping each other, teaching only love

Creating only oneness, only love

No left or right, a united party we create.

Not for humankind but the cosmos combined.

Not us or them, him or her, no finger pointed.

Creating only oneness, only love

Conscious community, gardens shared.

Cleansing of what was, newness abounds.

You, part of me and me of you, humanity thrives.

Creating only oneness, only love

The time is now to make amends.

To self, others, water, land, and skies above

Collective energies, higher planes

Creating only oneness, only love

One step at a time, united in cause

Awareness of a better way, a job to do.

Now is the time, will we step into our power?

Creating only oneness, only love

Time to unite one and all.

Whatever your gifts, whatever your call

Do it for the world, do it now.

Creating only oneness, only love
